The Joint winners of International Entrepreneurship Challenge 2008 were: Team‐Picporta and Team‐ 5 Shells

 

The Grand Finale of International Entrepreneurship Challenge 2008 saw six teams battling it out for the ultimate prize on 6th December 2008. Kicked off on 28th September, IEC witnessed more than 350 of the qualified entries.

 

On the final day, the event started at 11:20 hrs with Prof. Vivek Suneja, Dean (Planning) of Delhi University and Professor of Strategy at Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi, delivering the keynote address in front of the audience. Prof. V.Suneja gave an enriching insight about the relevance of Entrepreneurship in the management institutes and the importance of judgments taken by an entrepreneur to ensure success of the business.

   

The jury for the finals comprised of Prof. Vivek Suneja, Dr. A. S. Rao - senior government official in the Ministry of Science and Technology, Dr. Anil Wali - Managing Director of Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer, IIT Delhi, Mr. Anurakt Jain - Analyst in Draper Fisher Jurvetson's India, Mr. Arpit Agarwal – Associate at Seedfund & Mr. Mohit Malik – Principal at Anoova Consulting.

The delegates who attented the finale included Mr.Sankalp Gupta & Associate (Resurgent India Limited), Ms.Kalpana Sinha (Consultant,NEN) & Mr.Sunit Thalor (MBAUniverse).

The final presentations began with team Picporta, a startup venture, presenting their business plan. They were followed by Team Lilac and Team 5 Shells in the pre lunch session. When the proceedings resumed in the post lunch session, there were business plan presentations by Team Hope, Team Srijan and Team idubba. Each Business Plan presentation was followed by a Question-Answers Session where the judges tried to analyze the business plans from different perspectives.

Under the Technopreneur Promotion Programme (TePP) initiative by DSIR, Dr.A.S.Rao announced that the winners can avail the various benefits like the funding and the expertise on the subject matter. This will lead to the seed funding of the two winning teams.

The Grand Finale of one of the Biggest Business Plan Contests, IEC 2008, was concluded with a vote of thanks from Neeraj Kumar, President, Entrepreneurship Cell, Faculty of Management Studies, who thanked the Sponsors, Venture Capital Partners, Online Media Partners, preferred food partners, Knowledge Partners, mentors, and everyone connected to the event, directly or indirectly, whose support ensured that the event was a great success.

The Concept: IEC-2008

International Entrepreneurship Challenge (IEC) 2008 was a unique opportunity, conceptualized by Entrepreneurship Cell, FMS Delhi, to unearth those visionaries who had the uncanny ability to envision the future needs and wants of the economy. The event gave a call to all those enterprising souls to bring out their ideas in the forefront of this world's arena.

Having successfully conducted one of the India's Biggest Business-Plan challenges "International Entrepreneurship Challenge-2006", IEC'08 aimed to give a stronger reinforcement structure to individuals in their quest for unexplored zone of entrepreneurship with more focus on StartUps. This event was the only one of its kind ever conducted with participation open to undergraduates, postgraduates, corporate and startups across the world giving everyone the opportunity to start up. IEC’08 tested the fundamentals of each entrepreneur and only the warrior with the grit and guts walked away with the ultimate honors.

The event was open to all - students UG & PG, Research Scholars, Corporate and Startups across Asia-Pacific region. IEC provided incubation opportunity to the potential participants with our primary incubator nLeague Services Inc. The program called nAble (nLeague Assisted Business Leadership for Entrepreneurs)  provides participants an access to incubation facilities and start-up support to help them transform their business plans into successful enterprises. Moreover, the finalists of the challenge got an opportunity to receive seed funding of upto INR 1 Crore from Seedfund (Seed Advisors Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai). IEC also helped all the teams that qualified for mentorship phase to pitch in front of the angels at the Indian Angel Network.
